What is a Sports Turf Management Apprenticeship?
Our Sports Turf Management Apprenticeship is a hands-on, nationally recognised training program where you’ll earn a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management all while getting paid and gaining real industry experience.
You’ll learn how to build, prepare, maintain high-performance sports surfaces and develop the technical skills needed to keep them in peak condition year-round.
Your work will be a mix of:
- Preparing sports fields for training and match days
- Operating mowers and specialised turf equipment
- Monitoring turf health and soil conditions
- Assisting with irrigation and drainage systems
- Working as part of a team on large-scale sites
What Your Day Will Look Like
During your apprenticeship with us you can expect to be outside with an early start and finish. While working on real projects, you’ll be learning alongside experts. You might be working on a prestigious golf course, a sports stadium field, or a high-end school oval.
Your work will be a mix of:

Wanderers football park
By working with us you will be able to gain exposure to elite level sporting venues including natural and synthetic pitches that we create and manage.
Everleigh oval
We renovated the oval to enhance the players and spectators experience. Working with us means working on award winning ovals.
Geelong Baseball Centre
We renovated the existing competition diamond and established a new playing surface. We offer hands-on experience in building high performance sporting surfaces.

What jobs can I get with Cert III in Sports turf management?
With this certification, you can work as a Groundsperson, Greenkeeper, Curator, Turf Technician, Turf Operator/Manager or a Team Leader.

Do I need any experience or qualifications?
No, no experience or qualifications are required. We offer apprenticeships tailored to individuals new to the industry, after a career change or people looking to get recognition of existing skills.
How long does the course take to complete?
The course takes 4 years to complete if in NSW or VIC and 3 years in QLD. There can be times where you can get signed off early, please get in touch with us to find out more.
Do apprentices get paid?
Yes of course! Apprentices get paid for their work whilst completing the course. You’ll be paid while you train.
What projects will I be working on?
You will be working on a range of projects that are different each day or week. You will be maintaining a variety of high-performance sports fields, including but not limited to NRL, soccer, baseball, and cricket pitches, as well as premium golf courses and council facilities.
Do I get a uniform?
Yes, we provide a uniform so there are no personal clothing requirements.
Do I need my own tools or equipment?
We provide many of the tools and items you will use day-to-day, though there will be some tools you will be required to bring to work with you.
