What is a Parks and Gardens Apprenticeship?

Our Park and Gardens Apprenticeship is a practical training program where you will complete a Certification lll in Parks and Gardens and become a qualified Horticulturalist. At the end of the course, you will have the skills to create and maintain healthy outdoor spaces.  

This apprenticeship will make you an expert in plant care, weeding, pests and diseases, and how to control and manage them. You will also know how to cultivate turf, install irrigation and assess drainage issues.  

You’ll learn: 

  • Pruning and plant care 
  • Turf management 
  • How to control weeds, pests, diseases and disorders 
  • How to develop plant nutrition programs 
  • Plants and their culture 
  • Learn to operate maintenance equipment safely 
  • Install and maintain irrigation systems 

What Your Day Will Look Like

You’ll start early, finish early, and work in a team that keeps outdoor environments looking their best. The role is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors and around nature. 

Your day will be a mix of: 

  • Mowing, hedging and pruning 
  • Planting and garden maintenance 
  • Weed and pest control 
  • Irrigation checks and adjustments 
  • General upkeep of green spaces

We are responsible for the grounds maintenance at the Deakin University Melbourne Burwood campus. We help maintain the prestigious campuses ensuring landscapes are functional, safe and visually aesthetic.

What can you do with Cert III in Parks and Gardens?

With a Certification III in Parks and Gardens you can work outdoors to maintain public and private green spaces. After completion, you will be a qualified horticulturist and will be qualified to work as a parks and gardens tradesperson on a range of projects, from council and community parks and retirement villages to school and university grounds. 

We are a top choice for a Parks and Gardens apprenticeship as we are a leader in the industry and we offer structured training on high end commercial projects. With over 30 years in the industry, our apprenticeship is built around real industry experience and focuses on career growth.  

No, no experience or qualifications are required. We offer apprenticeships tailored to individuals new to the industry, after a career change or people looking to get recognition of existing skills.  

The course takes 4 years to complete if in NSW or VIC and 3 years in QLD. There can be times where you can get signed off early, please get in touch with us to find out more.  

Yes of course! Apprentices get paid for their work whilst completing the course. You’ll be paid while you train. 

You will be working on a range of projects that are different each day or week. This includes popular reserves like Barangaroo, high performance sports fields like Everleigh Oval, campuses like Deakin university and much more.  

Yes, we provide a uniform so there are no personal clothing requirements.  

We provide many of the tools and items you will use day-to-day, though there will be some tools you will be required to bring to work with you.
