Deakin University

Deakin University prides itself on being a progressive educational institution, providing top-quality education to the thousands of local and international students who study with them. This extends from the research facilities and study areas to their sporting fields. We’re proud to be part of this important work through our landscaping and turf maintenance services at Deakin University.

Solutions+ is responsible for the grounds maintenance at the Deakin University Melbourne Burwood campus, along with the turfcare responsbilities at the Geelong Waurn Ponds campus.

The Elite Sports Precinct

Deakin University’s Elite Sports Precinct in Waurn Ponds is more than just a sports ground; it’s a hub for champions, a training ground for future stars, and a vital recreational space for the entire student body. From the rigorous demands of the Geelong Cats AFL team to the daily activities of student clubs like the Deakin Ducks Soccer Club, maintaining pristine, high-performance sports turf year-round is key.

The precinct boasts an impressive array of facilities: an MCG-sized AFL oval, a FIFA-grade soccer pitch, an eight-lane 400-metre athletics track, a 50-metre long-jump track, a high-quality baseball diamond, and courts for basketball and netball.

We deliver a consistent, world-class turf maintenance program that caters to both elite and community users, ensuring peak playability and safety, no matter the season or sport.

The Deakin University Melbourne Campus

With 26,000 students and 1,500 staff at the Deakin University’s Melbourne Burwood on any one day, delivering a rigorous landscape maintenance program is essential.

Dedicated to working with our customers to deliver outdoor learning spaces that inspire, connect, and support our academic community, our team ensure every element of the campus landscape is maintained so as to enhance the student and staff experience.

Our work ensures that the university grounds are not only aesthetically pleasing and contributing to a positive learning atmosphere, but also that they function efficiently. We also work to incorporate sustainable practices that reflect Deakin Univeristy’s broader environmental commitments. It’s about creating a green, welcoming, and high-performing backdrop for daily campus life.

Game-Day Ready

Competition day nerves are enough to manage, without the added worry of sports fields not ready for play. We work closely with the Deakin University team to ensure their sports fields are always game day ready.

Our game-day preparation routine includes:

  • Cylinder and outfront mowing
  • Line marking
  • Garden bed maintenance and mulching
  • Weed spraying
  • Ongoing maintenance of the athletics track and baseball field

We also complete seasonal renovation and maintenance of the grounds, including aerating, scarifying, warm season to cool season conversions and oversowing.

Fun Facts

  • Wadanggari Park is constructed directly above the North Shore railway line, a complex engineering feat that allowed for the creation of much-needed open space in a densely populated urban environment.
  • The playground includes infant pods and mini slides for babies / toddlers, pod climbers for pre-schoolers, net towers for primary school visitors, steppers, bridges, climbing nets, viewing decks, play logs, and thrilling slides.
  • The new space also includes a large lawn area suitable for picnics and relaxing, and community events, with passive nooks surrounded by raised planter beds.
  • Council: Lane Cove Council
  • Clients: Arenco & JQZ
  • Landscape Architect: Arcadia Landscape Architecture

This park has become a well-loved asset within the community, with it rare to visit and find the playground empty.
