Koala Habitat Revegetation Project

Our ecology team was engaged to complete a koala habitat revegetation project in Sydney. This initiative aimed to restore koala habitat, control invasive species, and enhance biodiversity through strategic land management and restoration works.

Our team set about completing several tasks over several weeks to prepare the area and then complete the planting. These works included:

Targeted Weed Eradication: Our team controlled Lantana camara, Senna pendula, and Asparagus aethiopicus using selective herbicide applications and mechanical removal. We minimised soil disturbance to protect koala food trees and native understorey species.

Habitat Revegetation Tasks Continued...

Native Vegetation & Koala Food Tree Preservation: Our ecology team established buffer zones around existing native vegetation to protect them, with the species including the Eucalyptus robusta, Eucalyptus microcorys, and Eucalyptus tereticornis.

Monitoring & Habitat Assessment: Ongoing monitoring and habitat assessment was essential throughout the project, and our team conducted regular site inspections to evaluate weed regrowth and treatment effectiveness. Regrowth patterns were then mapped, with koala sightings and habitat health tracked.

Revegetation & Habitat Connectivity Planning: To provide food and improve habitat connectivity, our team planted native understorey and koala feed trees. This was aligned with seasonal conditions to ensure maximum survival rates.

Environmental Compliance & Community Engagement: Our team adhered to local environmental regulations and biosecurity standards, engaging with local stakeholders, community groups, and regulatory bodies to ensure project transparency.

The Outcomes Achieved

Through the delivery of this koala tree planting project, we achieved the following for the local wildlife and natural spaces:

  • Significant reduction in invasive weed density, improving koala habitat quality
  • Increased koala habitat connectivity through strategic revegetation
  • Enhanced biodiversity and ecosystem resilience
  • Ensured compliance with environmental and biosecurity regulations

This Koala Habitat Revegetation project highlights our expertise in ecological restoration, weed control, and wildlife habitat management. Our approach has enhanced habitat quality, supported koala conservation, and restored ecological balance within the project site.
